Land-based approach unlocks high-value macro-algae cultivation and scalable product innovation in challenging regions.

Intellectual property gained from several years of R&D into growing macroalgae for treating wastewater has been acquired alongside 0.2ha of key physical assets from Quayside Holdings, by EnviroStrat to further develop the massive potential of macroalgae grown in a controlled environment.

The newly acquired infrastructure - adapted for both marine and freshwater and for different algal species - can be used to remove excess nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus from nutrient-rich discharges including freezing works, dairy factories, salmon hatcheries, and municipal wastewater treatment facilities.

“This acquisition is a strategic investment with significant synergies with the other impact ventures EnviroStrat has created over the last five years; in particular our Greenwave Aotearoa seaweed venture,” said EnviroStrat founder Dr Nigel Bradly.
